What a regular cleaner costs over a year
Per visit, the price looks manageable. Multiply it out before you commit, because the yearly figure is the one your budget feels. These are typical Brisbane prices for a standard clean on a regular booking.
Fortnightly
What most households book
26 visits a year. Most people end up budgeting around this one.
Weekly
Kids, pets or a big house
A little cheaper per visit than fortnightly. Some companies take $5–$10 an hour off a weekly booking.
Monthly
Help with the big jobs only
Often priced like a one-off clean, 15–25% higher, because more builds up between visits.
Heads up: The first clean usually costs more because the cleaner is catching up on everything. It drops once they're keeping on top of a house that's already clean. For prices by home size and what's included, see our house cleaning prices guide.
What changed when we got a cleaner
- 1
Cleaning day is the best day of the week to come home. We're both wrung out from work, we open the front door, and the whole house smells fresh. Nothing needs doing tonight. Later there are clean sheets on the bed, and that's when we finally switch off.
- 2
The house stops nagging at you. A messy house talks. The washing basket. The bathroom you keep meaning to get to. Even on the couch, part of your brain is still working through the to-do list. Take the list away and relaxing stops being something you have to work at.
- 3
The weekend is actually ours. No Saturday morning lost to scrubbing the shower. We see family, catch up with friends, or do nothing at all in a house that's already clean. Don't underrate the doing nothing.
- 4
Nobody keeps score. In a lot of homes, chores are the argument that never quite ends: who did the bathroom last, who always gets stuck with the floors. A cleaner takes the worst of it off the table. You'll still argue about the dishes. Everyone does.
- 5
Friends can just drop in. Someone messages to say they're around the corner, and the answer is "come over", not a panicked twenty minutes shoving things into cupboards.
- 6
They're quicker than us, and better at it. A cleaner gets through a three-bedroom house in about three hours. Most of us take four or five, and the shower screen still ends up streaky.
Is it worth it for you?
Cleaners can be expensive, and we won't pretend otherwise. What you're really paying for is time, and for us that's an easy trade.
It usually makes sense when you both work full time and chores keep eating your weekends. And it's never just the cleaning. There's meal prep, the garden, the washing and the grocery run on top. Handing the cleaning to someone else takes the biggest job off the list, and the rest feels a lot more doable. With kids or pets, the case gets stronger again.
It's harder to justify if money is tight or you like cleaning. A middle ground works well here. Do the weekly stuff yourself, then book a deep clean once or twice a year for the jobs nobody wants. Our deep cleaning guide covers what that involves.
Not sure? Start fortnightly. You can add visits later, and a couple of months will tell you whether it's worth it.

Browse local house cleanersWhat our bad cleaners taught us
These are the checks we run now before someone new starts. None of them take long.
Read the reviews, the good and the bad
The star rating on its own tells you little. Read what people actually wrote, especially the negative reviews. Watch for the same complaint coming up more than once, like missed spots or a different cleaner every visit. Most listings on BNE Cleaners show the business's latest Google reviews, and you can sort them lowest first.
Get two or three quotes for your actual home
Tell each business how many bedrooms and bathrooms you have, whether there are pets, and how often you want them. A quote given without a single question is a guess. You'll also get a feel for who's organised before anyone steps inside.
Ask who turns up
Some businesses send the owner every time. Bigger ones may rotate staff between visits. Ask whether you'll get the same cleaner each time. Someone regular learns your house and how you like it, and you'll be handing them a key.
Ask what's included
A standard clean means different things to different businesses. Check whether the oven, the inside of the fridge and the windows are in or extra. If clean sheets matter to you like they do to us, ask whether changing the bed is included.
A walk-through on day one
Spend ten minutes showing them around before the first clean. Point out anything that marks easily, like painted walls or timber floorboards, and tell them what not to use on it. It feels fussy. Do it anyway.
Ask what they clean walls with
Melamine sponges, the white "magic eraser" kind, are abrasive. On flat or low-sheen paint they can rub the finish off and leave a shiny patch that won't wipe out. A careful cleaner tests somewhere hidden first, or leaves walls alone unless you ask.
Judge it on the third clean
The first clean is a catch-up and the second is them learning your house. By the third you'll know whether they're good. If something bugs you, say so early, while it's still an easy conversation.

Compare Brisbane house cleanersWhy we back locally owned Brisbane businesses
Our own run of cleaners is why we built BNE Cleaners. We support locally owned Brisbane businesses, and their listings carry a "Brisbane owned" badge, so you know who's from here before you click. We don't list booking platforms at all. Run a local cleaning business yourself? You can list it with us.
Local matters more than it sounds. A local business has a name to protect in the suburbs it works in, and when something goes wrong you can usually talk to the owner. On some national booking platforms you get whoever is free that day, and a complaint goes to a call centre.
Most local businesses cover a whole region, not just one suburb. A cleaner who works in Chermside will usually take bookings across the northside, and one based near Toowong covers most of the western suburbs. Start with your own area and you'll have a shortlist quickly.
Brisbane's humidity is another reason to keep it regular. From about November to March, shower grout and bathroom ceilings can grow mould within a couple of weeks if nobody's on top of it. A fortnightly clean keeps it in check. Leave it a month or two in summer and you're paying for a deep clean instead. A proper clean before the wet season helps too, and our spring cleaning plan covers that.
Regular cleaner FAQs
Is a regular cleaner worth the money?+
For most busy households, we think so. A fortnightly clean on a three-bedroom Brisbane home costs about $160 to $300 a visit, or roughly $4,160 to $7,800 a year. Whether that's worth it comes down to what your free time is worth to you.
How often should a regular cleaner come?+
Fortnightly suits most homes. Weekly makes sense with young kids, pets or a big house. Monthly works if you keep on top of things yourself and only want help with the bigger jobs.
Do I need to be home when the cleaner comes?+
Not usually. Most people are home for the first visit or two, then leave a key or a lockbox code. Only hand over access once you're happy with the cleaner and trust them.
What happens if a cleaner damages something?+
Take photos and tell the cleaner or the business the same day. If they carry public liability insurance, the repair can go through that. A good business owns the mistake and sorts it out, and how they handle it tells you whether to keep them.
Is a local cleaner better than a national booking platform?+
We think so, and it's why we mark locally owned businesses with a "Brisbane owned" badge. You tend to get the same cleaner every visit, someone who learns your house and how you like things done. If something goes wrong, it's sorted by a person with a local reputation to protect, not a support ticket.
